삼악산은 시내에서 서울방면으로 약 10km 지점에 있으며 매표소에서 계곡을 따라 오르다 보면 등선폭포, 비선폭포, 승학폭포, 백련폭포등 크고 작은 5개의 폭포가 나타난다.높이가 약10m에 이르는 제1폭포에서 제3폭포까지는 난간의 계단길을 통해서 올라갈 수 있게 만들어 놓아 자연의 웅장한 신비를 바로 눈 앞에서 바라볼 수 있도록 해 놓았다.산세가 크고 웅장하지는 않지만 이 산을 형성하고 있는 용화봉과 청운봉, 등선봉의 3개 봉우리에서 뻗어 내린 능선이 암봉으로 이루어져 절경을 이룬다.삼악산에는 흥국사, 상원사등 7개의 사찰과 삼악산성이 있고 등산로를 따라 오르면 해발 654m 높이의 정상에 이르며, 정상에서는 의암호의 아름다운 경관과 춘천시가지가 한눈에 내려다보인다. 정상에서 보아 흥국사 건너편 산이 등선봉인데 이곳은 옛날 맥국때 쌓았다는 삼악산성 성곽과 대궐터가 남아 있다.
